30 years have passed since the January 20 tragedy, the heroic page of our nation. The tragedy of January 20 is an honorable page in the history of our nation's struggle for independence and sovereignty.

Memorable event on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy was held with the participation of the staff of Intellectual Property Agency and its subordinate bodies.

The event participants first commemorated the memory of the martyrs of the tragic events with a minute's silence. Addressing the event, Chief of Staff Natig Isayev said that the January 20 tragedy had entered the history of the struggle for freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as a heroic page. He made the case of the Soviet troops fighting against the masses of people who protested against the aggressive actions of Armenia, claiming territorial claims against our country and the dissatisfaction of the former USSR leadership. He also said that in those tragic days, the lives of the native sons of the motherland, who died in the triumph of freedom, honor and dignity of their country and people, were at the peak of martyrdom. Natig Isayev noted that on the night of January 19 to 20, 1990, before the state of emergency was declared, the Soviet army launched military operations against Azerbaijan. As result, 147 people were killed, 744 were seriously injured and 841 were arrested illegallyAs a result of the operation of the Soviet army, 200 houses, houses, personal and state property were destroyed.

N. Isayev recalled that, despite all the difficulties, on January 21, 1990, the National Leader Heydar Aliyev made a statement with the members of his family in Moscow, expressed a sharp objection to aggression, strongly condemned the perpetrators of the tragedy, including M. S. Gorbachev, and that the perpetrators of crimes committed against civilians should be punished and the troops should be removed from Baku. It was under the proposal of Heydar Aliyev that the Parliament adopted a resolution on the tragic events in Baku on January 20, 1990 and gave full political and legal evaluation of the bloody January 20 tragedy at the state level.

Today, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev has set the task of maintaining the state-of-the-art addressing the issues of war veterans, families of martyrs and disabled people as one of the most important tasks. War veterans, families of martyrs, invalids are covered with all kinds of state care in our country, consistent and purposeful measures are being taken to strengthen their social security.
