A meeting was held at Intellectual Property Agency with experts from Greece, France and Hungary within the frame of implementation of “Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of Intellectual Property Agency to Manage and Protect Intellectual Property Rights in Digital Networks” Twinning Project.

Member of the Board of Agency, Deputy Chairman Mr. Sanan Tapdigov greeted the guests and briefed about the activities of the Agency. He noted that Agency is deeply interested in implementation of twinning project and attaches great importance to it.

Resident Twinning Adviser Ioannis Anagnostopoulos said that this time the experts' visit was on the second component and the third component, which respectively are “Technical Strengthening of the Intellectual Property Rights Center” and “Review of the legal and regulatory framework and development of new legislation”.

Leader of third component, outstanding expert on copyright, former assistant of Director General of World Intellectual Property Organization, chairman of Central and Eastern European Copyright Alliance Mr. Mihaly Ficsor noted that he is so pleasant of his subsequent visit to Azerbaijan. He noted that much has already been done to bring Azerbaijan's copyright legislation into line with EU and international standards, and that there is advanced legislation in our country. He provided a brief overview of EU copyright directives and said that Azerbaijan's copyright legislation will be revised during the project's implementation. He noted that the work on improvement of the legal framework for the preparation of relevant documents, including the creation of a national digital aggregator and the completion of the control marks will be carried out in order to bring it into line with the latest changes in EU legislation.

Nicos Stavropoulos, an employee of the Greek Copyright Organization, noted that the works will continue to focus on the second component of the project to focus on automation of the copyright protection system and the development of a national digital aggregator.

Current issues of implementation of the twinning project were also discussed at the meeting.
