Regulations on the Eurasian Patent Universiade "ADVANCING THE FUTURE"
I. General provisions
1. These Regulations determine the procedure for holding the Eurasian Patent Universiade "Advancing the Future" (hereinafter - the Universiade), summing up its results, determining the winners and prize-winners, as well as the prizes of the Universiade and the procedure for their presentation. The Eurasian Patent Office has the right to change the procedure and timing of the Universiade, presentation of creative works (creative projects), summing up the results of the Universiade, determining the winners and awardees of the Universiade, awarding prizes established by these Regulations.
2. The goal of the Universiade is to popularize the Eurasian patent system.
The objectives of the Universiade are to support gifted youth and increase their interest in intellectual property issues.
3. Financial support for the Universiade is carried out at the expense of the budget of the Eurasian Patent Organization.
II. Procedure for holding the Universiade
4. The Universiade is held annually from January 1 to September 9..
5. The Universiade is attended by students of educational organizations that implement educational programs of secondary general, secondary vocational, higher education, as well as other interested persons aged 10 to 25 years.
6. The Universiade is held in two age categories:
- I-st age category - from 10 to 17 years old inclusive;
- II age category - from 18 to 25 years old inclusive.
7. The Universiade is held in the form of a competition of creative works or projects performed on topics related to industrial property issues, annually determined by the Eurasian Patent Office for each age category.
8. Creative work or a creative project can be carried out both by an individual participant of the Universiade and by a team of participants, independently or under scientific guidance.
Creative work can be presented in Russian or English and should not exceed 20 pages of printed text, one-sided printing, made on white A4 paper in a Word text editor, in Times New Roman font, size 14, single-spaced and aligned to the width of the page. The margins of each sheet of creative work should be 20 mm. Each paragraph of the text of a creative work must be printed with a paragraph indent of 10 mm.
The creative work may be accompanied by photographs, illustrations, drawings, graphs, drawings necessary for a more visual presentation of the information presented in the creative work.
Requirements for a creative project are determined by the Eurasian Patent Office, depending on the topic of its implementation.
9. Creative works (creative projects) are sent to the Eurasian Patent Office from January 1 to April 30. Together with creative work (creative project), an application for participation in the Universiade is sent to the Eurasian Patent Office (for sample of application, please click here https://www.eapo.org/ru/documents/norm/pol_univers_2018_02.docx ).
One participant of the Universiade (group of participants) this year may submit one creative work or one creative project.
10. Evaluation of creative works (creative projects) is carried out by the jury of the Universiade by setting separately for each age category a certain number of points out of 10 maximum possible for each of the following criteria:
- completeness of disclosing the topic of creative work (creative project);
- argumentation and logic of reasoning;
- practical significance of creative work (creative project);
- creativity shown in the preparation of creative work (creative project).
III. The procedure for summing up the results of the Universiade
11. The results of the Universiade are summed up by the jury of the Universiade no later than May 31 and published on the web portal of the Eurasian Patent Organization.
12. The participants of the Universiade who scored the highest number of points in each age category, and if the Eurasian Patent Office determines several topics within the age category, the highest number of points on a particular topic, are recognized as winners of the Universiade.
13. The participants of the Universiade who took the second and third places in each age category in terms of the number of points scored, and if the Eurasian Patent Office determines several topics within the age category - the second and third places on a separate topic, are recognized as winners of the Universiade.
14. In case of an equal number of points scored by the participants of the Universiade, the Universiade jury has the right to determine the winners and prize-winners of the Universiade by voting.
15. If the jury of the Universiade does not come to a consensus in the assessment of creative works (creative projects), the decisive vote in determining the winners and prize-winners of the Universiade belongs to the chairman of the jury of the Universiade.
IV. Universiade prizes and rule of their presentation
16. The main prize for the winners of the Universiade is a study visit to the headquarters of the Eurasian Patent Organization.
The winners of the Universiade are also awarded the Eurasian Patent Office medal “Advancing the Future” and valuable gifts.
17. Participants of the Universiade who have scored more than half of the maximum possible score based on the assessment of creative works are awarded diplomas.
18. Participants of the Universiade who have scored more than half of the maximum possible score based on the assessment of creative works are awarded diplomas.
19. Prizes to the winners of the Universiade are awarded in a solemn atmosphere at the headquarters of the Eurasian Patent Organization on the next date of signing the Eurasian Patent Convention.
Prizes and diplomas to other participants of the Universiade can be presented both at the Headquarters of the Eurasian Patent Organization and delivered to them in another way.
