The Training was held for Judges in the field of intellectual property
Workshop on Intellectual Property Adjudication jointly organized by the Intellectual Property Agency, the Justice Academy of the Ministry of Justice, and the US Department of Commerce's Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) was held in May 17-18 of current year.
Mr. Elchin Khalafov, Acting Rector of the Academy of Justice, Mr. Khudayat Hasanli, Director of the Patent and Trademark Examination Center under the Intellectual Property Agency, Mr. Michael Dickerson, US Deputy Chief of Mission, and Mr. Arezo Yazd, CLDP International Attorney-Advisor, spoke at the opening ceremony. They stressed the importance of training in the field and wished success to the event.
Mr. Hasanli's report on "Issues of enforcement of patent rights in Azerbaijan" was heard at the seminar.
Judge Bernice Donald, U.S. Circuit Court Judje (Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals), Judge Becky Thorson, Magistrate Judge of District of Minnesota and Judge Gunel Sevdimaliyeva, Judge of Administrative Courts of Baku provided broad information on adjudication of IP cases: Azerbaijan and US perspective and recent trends.
Head and Deputy Head of Legal, Appeal and Internal Control Department Mr. Igbal Askarov and Mr. Faig Alizada made presentations on the Agency's activities in resolving copyright and industrial property disputes and judicial practice in this area.
During the training, the participants exchanged views on the calculation of damages, payment of royalties for trademarks, copyright and retransmission, trade secrets, software licenses, as well as court cases in the field of intellectual property.
