Within the framework of "Intellectual Property Month" announced by the Intellectual Property Agency, trainings on "Registration and examination of trademarks and geographical indications" were organized.

At the event, Guljahan Alimardanova, head of the "National Trademarks and Geographical Indications" sector of the Patent and Trademark Examination Center under the Agency, gave a report on the relevant articles of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Trademarks and Geographical Indications", including the concept of "trademark", conducting examination and registration procedures, the Protocol of the Madrid Agreement on the Registration of Trademarks, the recommendations of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the conduct of examination and advanced international practice. She stated that trademarks are an integral part of the market economy, and that it has the power to regulate the relationship between producer and consumer, emphasizing the importance of trademark registration. She noted that interesting information could be obtained from the books and textbooks on trademarks and geographical indications by well-known foreign authors, as well as from the methodological resources of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The books of foreign authors and methodological resources of WIPO are posted on the websites.

G. Alimardanova also provided detailed information on the work done by the Intellectual Property Agency in this field, including the published books "Analytical review of industrial designs, geographical indications and trademarks in Azerbaijan", " Geographical indications specific to Azerbaijan" and "Let's protect our national brands". It was specially brought into attention that the geographical indications specific to Azerbaijan, noted in the above-mentioned books, are the carriers of the pearls of our nation's national cuisine, examples of national handicrafts and copper smithing art.

We would also like to inform you that in recent years, trademark registration procedures was accelerated and transparency was ensured in this area. In order to ensure the satisfaction of applicants, in the Agency several years a 24/7 digital "PƏNAH" system was established. This eliminates the loss of time for applicants to submit claim documents, and provides access to the service from anywhere and at any time.
