Representatives of the Intellectual Property Agency participated in the diplomatic conference
A diplomatic conference was recently held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to finalize and adopt the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Design Law Treaty.
Gulnara Rustamova, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Akbar Aliyev, Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Legal Affairs, attended the event.
Within the framework of the diplomatic conference, our delegation met with Ms. Wang Binying, Deputy Director General of WIPO. The meeting provided information on the current situation in the intellectual property sphere in Azerbaijan, the positive results achieved in the development of the intellectual property system, the state policy in the field of intellectual property and the structure of the Intellectual Property Agency, as well as the current state of legislation. Y. Binying noted that WIPO is always ready to provide support for the development of the intellectual property system at the national and regional levels. He stated that Azerbaijan has great potential for international registration of industrial designs in accordance with the Hague Agreement, that he is aware of the abundance of geographical indications in Azerbaijan, and that it is important for Azerbaijan to join the Treaty of Lisbon. During the meeting, increasing the number of applications for registration of geographical indications belonging to Azerbaijan, raising awareness in this area, possibilities of accelerating Azerbaijan's accession process to the Treaty of Lisbon and other issues related to intellectual property were discussed.
As part of the event our delegation met with the delegation headed by Szabolcs Farkas, President of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office. At the meeting, information was given about the Agency's recent achievements, the transfer of applications for registration of intellectual property objects to a completely electronic environment, the Agency's structure that enables effective management, and the intellectual property ecosystem in Azerbaijan. S.Farkas spoke about the structure of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and the dynamics of applications for registration of intellectual property objects in Hungary. During the meeting, bilateral cooperation opportunities were discussed, including the exchange of experience and information between the intellectual property institutions of the two countries and the organization of awareness-raising events.
At the same time our delegation participated in the event titled "Academic Perspectives on the Design Rights Treaty: Disclosure, Artificial Intelligence and Public Funding" jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and American University Washington College of Law.
At the event, at the initiative of our delegation, a discussion was held on the registration of design works created by artificial intelligence and who owns the exclusive rights.
