A system is being introduced in Azerbaijan that allows the acceptance of application materials for invention, utility model and industrial design with the inclusion of a 3D model format
At the 41st meeting of the Administrative Council of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) held in September 2022, a decision was made to start accepting three-dimensional models (3D) of the claimed objects by the Eurasian Patent Office (EPO) when submitting applications for obtaining a Eurasian patent for inventions and industrial designs.
At the meeting of the Permanent Working Group on Information Technologies of the Administrative Council of EAPO on November 21, 2022, an updated version of the "EAPO-ONLINE" system was presented, which allows submission of applications for inventions and industrial designs by including models in 3D format. Eurasian applications in order to obtain patent for inventions and industrial designs are filed by citizens of EAPO member states through the national patent offices of these countries. Taking this into account, it was recommended to start accepting Eurasian applications in pilot mode, including 3D models of the materials, as well as sending such claim documents to EAPO using the "EAPO-ONLINE" system. The working group supported the EPO's initiative to help implement this innovation in national patent offices and supported the implementation of a pilot project to provide the use of digital three-dimensional models (3D) by the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Within the framework of the implementation of the project, the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is the first initiative among the EPO Member States, plans to include the graphic materials of applications for inventions, utility models and industrial designs in 3D model format. In this regard, specialists who will monitor the process have been identified and necessary technical work has been implemented.
This applied innovation will greatly simplify the process of examination of applications, will reveal and demonstrate the characteristics of the claimed object more clearly.
