Member of Board, Deputy Chairman of Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sanan Tapdigov received Deputy Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) Nino Chikovani.

Welcoming the guest, S. Tapdygov informed her about the activities and functions of the Intellectual Property Agency, which was established in 2018 as part of the institutional reforms carried out in our country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, as a single state body that combines competences in the field of copyright and industrial property. Speaking about the achievements in this area, S. Tapdigov noted that they are reflected in international ratings, including the Global Innovation Index, in terms of intellectual property, he noted the increase in the volume and quality of digital services provided by the Agency, and also informed about the activities of Agency in the field of technology transfer and support for the commercialization of inventions, taking into account the correlation of the economy and the protection of intellectual property rights.

Highly appreciating the first visit of the representative of Sakpatenti after the establishment of the Agency, he noted that Azerbaijan is interested in developing cooperation with Georgia in the field of intellectual property.

In turn, N. Chikovani gave brief information about Sakpatenti. She noted that the institution she represented was a legal entity of public law, not funded by the state, and that the budget was formed mainly on the basis of fees paid by non-residents, primarily WIPO, for the registration of industrial property. He noted that Georgia has harmonized the European Union (EU) legislation in the field of intellectual property and is currently working to harmonize practices in this regard.

At the meeting, other issues of mutual interest in the field of intellectual property between Azerbaijan and Georgia also discussed, including the issue of mutual recognition of geographical indications.
