The Intellectual Property Agency continues its activities to intercept violations of the rights to the Azerbaijani dance “Basgali” and the Azerbaijani folk song “Bu gala, dashli gala”, committed by some Georgian TV channels.
On October 21, 2024, the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan sent a letter to the management of the Georgian National Intellectual Property Center "SAKPATENTI". The letter requested that the reasons for the presentation of the Azerbaijani dance "Basqali" as "Somkhuri shalakho" - Armenian shalakhos on the Georgian TV channels 1TV.CE, "IMEDI" and "Rustavi" and the failure to indicate the source and the name of the people to whom the Azerbaijani folk song "Bu qala, dashli qala" was used, appropriate measures be taken, the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan be informed about this, and the issue be constantly monitored to prevent such cases from recurring.
We also inform that relevant materials confirming the violations of rights have been submitted to "SAKPATENTI". "SAKPATENTI" responded to the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding this issue and stated that it will clarify the issue regarding the violation of rights of musical works on television channels broadcast in Georgia.
In addition to providing more detailed legal information and tools regarding violations of rights, SAKPATENTI sent inquiries to specialized TV channels with the aim of taking measures to prevent such violations and restore rights. In addition, it was noted that broader judicial and legal mechanisms could be used to resolve this issue.
The management of "SAKPATENTI" stated that it will carefully monitor the analysis and responses to this issue and will continue to take the necessary measures to resolve legal disputes.
